About

Loren Griffyn and Paintings

My name is Loren Griffyn.

I’m a Canadian artist, maker, and general all-round lover of the arts currently living in British Columbia.

I make things because when I do, I feel happy, hopeful, and soulfully satisfied.

Art making is truly a balm for my soul, and it is always my hope that my artworks will feel like a balm to yours too.

My current artful explorations are all about my deep love and reverence for birds. I am obsessed and fascinated by their fragility and complexity and find their role as symbolic messengers between heaven and earth an endless source of magic and inspiration.

My favourite mediums are acrylic and watercolour, but I love mixing a variety of media together to create finely detailed, layered artworks.

It is my deepest intent that through my art I can offer people a simple reminder to pause and enjoy nature, her beautiful creatures and allow it to be a source of serenity, energy, and healing.

I have a BFA in fine arts from the University of Victoria where I did a lot of oil painting and drawing, often combining both on large swaths of unprimed canvas.

Every piece of art and every product that I create begins with an intention to connect with my heart centre. I find making art smooths out life’s rough edges and helps me make sense of all the complex feelings and experiences that are part of being human.

I've participated in an extensive array of group, juried and solo exhibitions; my accomplishments include: Honourable mention with Art on the Severn Juried Show and Sale, Washago, Ontario;  solo exhibitions at the Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre and jury invitations to the Westland Gallery and Art Exchange Gallery’s Square Foot Show, Birds in Art and Studio Tour 20th Anniversary Exhibit.

Since I was young, artistic exploration has always been a calming path to integrating and processing my feelings. My journey with artistic expression is both meditative and communicative. Expressing in the language of the visual, using line, colour, and texture has always felt natural and was a way to more easily express my heartfelt love of nature and beauty around me.

When not in the studio, I enjoys long, meditative walks among the rolling sage hills and sparkling rivers of Kamloops, BC, where I delight in catching glimpses of the many birds and creatures that come across my path.
