About

Hi, I'm Loren.

I’m a Canadian artist and general all-round lover of the arts currently living in British Columbia. When I'm not at my real world job at the local hospital, I make time to bird watch, meditate, and make art when I can.

Over the years, my art making has explored many different subject matters; from Goddess inspired to semi abstract to my latest obsession, birds.

My love of birds started early. As a child I have vivid memories of gazing out my bedroom window to watch the antics of the intelligent and mischievous crows that lived in my neighbourhood. And I can't forget the many evenings falling asleep to the sound of Robins serenading the setting sun.

However, my greatest appreciation came when I was gifted a Budgie bird, named Perky, who pretty much rocked my world. He was the light of my life, a constant, joyful companion that accompanied me through some turbulent teenage years.

Exploring the magical and mystical power of Birds through my art fills me with gratitude and awe, and keeps me grounded and connected to my spirited, soulful self.

In sharing my art, it is my hope that my art also helps your heart soar with awe and love for these magical, mystical beings.

My favourite mediums are acrylic and watercolour, but I love mixing a variety of media together to create finely detailed, layered artworks.

It is my deepest intent that through my art I can offer people a simple reminder to pause and enjoy nature, her beautiful creatures and allow it to be a source of serenity, energy, and healing.

I have a Bachelor in Fine Arts from the University of Victoria where I did a lot of oil painting and drawing, often combining both on large swaths of unprimed canvas.

Every piece of art and every product that I create begins with an intention to connect with my heart centre. I find making art smooths out life’s rough edges and helps me make sense of all the complex feelings and experiences that are part of being human.

I've participated in an extensive array of group, juried and solo exhibitions; my accomplishments include: Honourable mention with Art on the Severn Juried Show and Sale, Washago, Ontario;  solo exhibitions at the Ingersoll Creative Arts Centre and jury invitations to the Westland Gallery and Art Exchange Gallery’s Square Foot Show, Birds in Art and Studio Tour 20th Anniversary Exhibit.

Since I was young, artistic exploration has always been a calming path to integrating and processing my feelings. My journey with artistic expression is both meditative and communicative. Expressing in the language of the visual, using line, colour, and texture has always felt natural and was a way to more easily express my heartfelt love of nature and beauty around me.

When not in the studio, I enjoys long, meditative walks among the rolling sage hills and sparkling rivers of Kamloops, BC, where I delight in catching glimpses of the many birds and creatures that come across my path.
